HexaBus - The Kraken of Home Automation

Our standards-based, open-source home automation system is now (almost) available. The facts:

  • Each device has an unique IPv6 address.
  • Devices communicate using 6LoWPAN on 868 MHz (yes, its a mesh network).
  • There is a direct mapping of devices to (globally unique) IPv6 adresses.
  • Each device runs Contiki, a nice little operating system with support for networking and processes. TCP, UDP, and ICMP are directly available.
  • Each device also runs a webserver that provides a little configuration interface (just like your network router)
  • Hardware is based on an ATMega1284 - use avrgcc or WinAVR for development.
  • Both hardware and software are open source.
  • Provides excellent interfaces for hacking (both hardware and software).
